ClimateWork Maine Announces Its Founding Board of Directors and First Executive Director

ClimateWork Maine founder and small business owner, Alan Caron, today announced its Founding Board of Directors and first Executive Director.

“We are a new Maine-based organization dedicated to helping businesses better understand the effects of climate change, plan for the future, and be part of the solution,” said Caron. “Climate change will bring unprecedented challenges to Maine’s businesses and economy, but also a new set of opportunities. What is essential is that we better understand and adapt to what is coming, and what is, in many ways, already here.”

ClimateWork Maine is pleased to announce that Jeff Marks has been named the organization’s first Executive Director. Jeff brings more than twenty years of experience at the intersection of business, government, and the environment. Jeff’s former work with E2Tech, an organization that seeks to build Maine’s energy and environmental technology economy, and most recently Acadia Center, an organization that focuses on strategic alliances for systemic clean energy solutions, gives him a unique perspective in leading ClimateWork Maine.

“We’ve talked to business leaders who agree that action is essential to respond to climate change, whether by investing in their operations, producing clean and sustainable products and services, or supporting climate policies,” shared Marks. “Yet, many businesses lack information or access to resources and people who can help. That is where ClimateWork Maine comes in.”

The new Board will be chaired by Doug McKeown, former CEO and current Board Chair of one of Maine’s premier engineering and consulting firms, Woodard & Curran. Lydia Covert, Corporate Sustainability Director for Unum, an international provider of workplace benefits and services, will serve as Vice-chair. According to McKeown, “helping businesses engage in climate actions in ways that fit their specific needs will also help them gain a competitive edge in their businesses while making a difference for future generations.”
