Alan Caron, President

Alan has been a small business owner and social entrepreneur for most of his adult life, working on issues ranging from business development to neighborhood renewal, affordable housing, transportation, telecommunications, poverty and the environment.

He is the founder of Envision Maine, which preceded ClimateWork, and worked to promote an economy driven by Maine’s innovators, entrepreneurs and doers. He is also the co-founder of GrowSmart Maine, which works to revitalize towns and regions across the state.

Alan is the co-author of two books, Maine’s Next Economy in 2015 and Reinventing Maine Government in 2010From 2013 to 2018 he wrote a weekly column in the Maine Sunday Telegram and the weekend edition of the Central Maine papers, covering issues ranging from the economy to politics, world affairs and sports.

Alan is a lifelong Mainer who grew up in Waterville, Maine and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. 

 

Sam Fratoni, Chair

Sam is a business executive with over 30 years of global, technical corporate leadership, focused on helping organizations apply technology to real customer needs to produce results for the company and employees. He led business units, international regions and global business functions for Hewlett Packard and IDEXX Laboratories as Corporate Vice President.

Sam is very involved in leadership, educational and entrepreneurial development activities based on solid understanding of best practice application. He utilizes his diverse background to define fundamental models for best practices to help individuals and teams become "consciously competent" and gain measured results. He is currently Chair Emeritus, Maine Angles and Director, Maine Outdoor Brands. He is the past Board Chair for Breakwater School and Maine Center for Entrepreneurs.  He mentors individuals leaders of starting and growing businesses and non-profits, and advisor for several commercial and non-profit organizations.
